Stoke Green 3 v Amersham CC Saturday 3rd X1 on Sat 24 May 2008 at 13:30
Amersham CC Lost by 28 runs
This was the first time that Stoke Green 3rd's had played a match at the Martin Baker Ground their new home venue and even they agree that there is room for a great deal of improvement in the state of the wicket! If it wasn't for the contribution from the youth in the side we would have faired a great deal worse than we did. Seven wickets fell to three bowlers whose combined age is eighteen less than the captain is admitting to and helped by Phil Tansey who in not one of his best spells took 3 for 39 bowled out Stoke Green for 140. The three youngsters in question Stuart Rogers (3/34) James Dobree-Carey (3/37) and Will Gray (1/11) bowled very well.
In reply a collapse from 31/1 to 35/5 didn't exactly help the cause but a stand of 50 between Will Gray (29) and Jerry Alwyn whose first boundary for Amersham in four years was a glorious straight six put us back in with a chance. However, the vagueries of the wicket won through and we were soon bowled out for a measly 112 28 short of victory.
Thankfully we only have to play there once a year. Poor Stoke Green have to do it every other week!
