Mid-table rivals Amersham and Cove played out an exciting draw at Shardeloes on Saturday. Cove opted to bat first upon winning the toss and played aggressively from the outset, reaching 80-2 after the first 15 overs. Two quick wickets slowed the scoring rate but young opener Marsh preserved the momentum of the innings with an impressive 88. David Atkinson continued his good form with three wickets from his big spinning leg breaks. A late flurry of strokes from Cove captain Jez Jones left Amersham with a tough target of 255 for victory.
In reply, Amersham began cautiously, with Rob and Andrew Viney sharing an opening partnership of 85. However, the mid-innings drinks break precipitated the loss of four quick wickets to leave Amersham struggling at 95-4. Luke Jackson (75) and Chris Owen (61) consolidated cautiously before resuscitating the innings with an aggressive 120-run partnership; Jackson's front-foot power-play contrasting well with Owen's pulling and driving. The crucial wicket of Jackson with 40 runs still required slowed Amersham's chase as both teams were forced to settle for the draw.
