Amersham CC Sunday 1st X1 v Winslow Town on Sun 20 Apr 2008 at 13:30
Amersham CC Won 57 Runs
The first home game of the season saw a good all round performance by Amersham. Debutant skipper Andrew Viney won the toss and elected to bat first, despite a somewhat green wicket. After a delayed start the opposition took to the field and so too did the Amersham openers, Rob Viney (25) and Elliot Ketteringham (43). A steady opening attack from Winslow bought a very slow start from Amersham, the ball seaming around made runs hard to come by. Bad balls began to be punished and the run rate started to increase after the first 10 overs with some clean hitting from both Viney and Ketteringham. However Rob edged a seaming delivery to the wicket keeper, introducing Andy Viney (81) to the crease. The pair continued to dominate the attack until Ketteringham chipped one to mid wicket off a leading edge. There was no let up from Amersham as Dan Colquhoun (41) and Luke Jackson (24) continued to put the ball into the corn field giving Amersham what transpired to be a match winning total of 221 from their 40 overs.
After a solid and substantial debut from the new tea girls team, Duncan Ward and Matt McKay took the new ball and quickly found their rhythm delivering numerous wicket taking balls. Ward was the first to strike, clean bowling the Winslow opener. Stuart Rogers, Matt Ash and Mustapha Rajabali bowled very consistently keeping the oppositions run rate minimal. It was David Sidebottom’s left arm spin that ripped through the middle order of Winslow taking 3 wickets in his spell.
Winslow found themselves 57 runs short of Amersham’s total. A great win for the team & new skipper before the new Sunday league gets underway.
