Cove 2 v Amersham CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 29 Jul 2006 at
Match was Drawn

Amersham 2nds posted a daunting target for third placed Cove after having been invited to bat on a very good wicket, one that the home side then showed no interest in chasing to allow Amersham to consolidate their position behind leaders Kew.

Openers Mayne and Weston provided the platform for the onslaught by the Amersham middle order, with Danny Bulman hammering his way to 125 not out, well supported by Jack Kilgannon (62) and Todd Kruger (40 no) playing his last game for the club. It was perhaps fitting that Kruger was given a farewell present by Bulman in the form of a straight drive hit back at him like an exocet missile to leave a not inconsiderable mark on his leg. Mr Kruger was indeed lucky that it hit him where it did me thinks!

Despite having won 7 games batting second, it was rather frustrating for Cove not to attempt to secure more than the 2 batting points that they gained, and although the Amersham bowlers tried everything possible, the game petered out into a very dull draw. However, Amersham now have an 11 point cushion to take into next weekends game with NPL Teddington and it is to be hoped that an alarming number of absentees will not derail the promotion push!
