Cockfosters v Amersham CC Sunday 1st X1 on Sun 29 Apr 2007 at
Amersham CC Lost 3 Wkts
Amersham travelled to Cockfosters for a first round game in the National Cockfosters Cup. Batting first again the innings followed a similar pattern to Saturday’s game against Chesham. A solid start from Andy Viney and Paul Weston (17), who put on 35 for the first wicket was followed by acceleration from Evan Hamilton-Pike (23). His departure brought Dan Colquhoun to the wicket. He immediately attacked the bowling, hitting 4 of his first 14 balls for four. He continued in this vein throughout, reaching 50 off 37 balls and hitting the last ball of the innings to the boundary to bring up his hundred off only 64 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes. Viney accelerated through the latter stages of the innings as well to finish 85 not out. 232 looked a competitive total, but Cockfosters opening bat, Declan O’Leary played an innings of rare quality. Taking advantage of the early fielding restrictions he bludgeoned his first 50 off 24 balls, and Cockfosters passed the 100 in only the 11th over. The introduction of spin from David Atkinson (1-34), Luke Jackson (1-35) and David Sidebottom (2-42) slowed the rate and began to take wickets, but the early assault left too little room for manoeuvre. O’Leary slowed down after his blistering start, but reached his hundred off 73 balls. When he was bowled by Brad Holt the home side only needed 17 more and they reached their target in the 41st over.
