Wendover U12 v Amersham CC U12 on Thu 22 May 2008 at 18:00
Amersham CC Won 56 Runs
A decisive victory for Amersham U12. Henry won the toss and quite rightly decided to bat first as only seven Amersham players had made it to Wendover before the start of play! Amersham batted very sensibly and were always alert to the quick single as the Wendover fieldsman were generally set too deep. Amersham made 114 for 5 in their twenty overs with good contributions from Ashley Turney (30*), Joe Baldwin (24)& Woody Bowcock (16). After the tea interval of biscuits and orange juice, Amersham took to the field with eleven players thanks to the arrival of Thomas Piper and Philip Lloyd, who were both there as spectators, but were prepared take to the field at a much higher age group than which they normally play in. This was Thomas' first ever colts match and both boys fielded excellently with great commitment. Amersham learnt from Wendover and set a very attacking field which meant the Wendover batsman had to try and play shots to break the inner fielding circle. All the Amersham bowlers bowled straight and with good pace on a bouncy wicket. Wickets tumbled regularly and Wendover were dismissed for 58 after 14 overs. Special mention must go the boys who claimed 2 wickets, Matthew Fennell (2-10), Edward Lloyd (2-6) and Hershil Patel (2-10). Hershil found plenty of turn and bounce with his leg spin which enabled Henry Bowcock to claim two stumpings and one catch off Edward's bowling. All in all this was a great team effort with excellent captaincy from Henry. Once again many thanks to Thomas Piper and Philip Lloyd without whom the game could have been much closer! Thanks also to Simon Varrall who assisted me during the evening.
