AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Jesters on Sun 01 Jun 2014 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 48 runs

Match report As a captain, it's never good to be worried at tea. This is a time when you can forget about the first half of the game and focus on whether your sixth sandwich is going to be ham or tuna, or whether you 'really need' that last slice of Jamaican ginger cake (which by the way, was fantastic). On a sunny Sunday afternoon, with a pitch that was harder than most this season, I found myself worried at tea. Having said that, I also had the last slice of ginger cake. Come to your own conclusions.

We won the toss and batted - this was a good result judging from our consecutive wins against the Jesters since 2009. We could only muster 143 on what seemed a difficult wicket to score on. To give credit where it is due, the Jesters bowled incredibly well. There left arm spinner being the pick of a strong attack finishing with figures of 2 for 1 from 8.

As a captain (which is a phrase I suppose I can now use) you always feel confident when you have a player you can turn to and you know they will perform. Alex Limes doesn't play many Sundays. I wish he would play more. His first 6 overs were all maidens and the 4 slip fielders counted 3 balls that the batsmen were able to lay a bat on. Raza Ahmed once again performed in the middle overs and took a couple of wickets with a few customary interludes of energetic appealing. In the end we wrapped up the game fairly comfortably with Freddie Bowcock finishing the game in style - a nice edge to first slip which was well caught by Hugh Jackson.

Other notable performances include Mustapha Rajabali who will not stop taking wickets. An impressive spell of tight bowling, pace variations, and 2 wickets to increase the club tally to well over 1300. Notable moments include Andy running out Mike without facing.

The league season starts next week against St Albans and after that bowling performance we should all be feeling confident that a win is waiting for us.
