Tring Park v AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 on Sun 23 Aug 2009 at 12:30
AMERSHAM CC Won 3 wickets

Match report Amersham travelled to Tring hoping that they would serve up a 'cupset' against a team that is 2 divisions above them. Amersham were boosted by the news that Tring had a third of their team missing due to Bucks playing a minor counties game against Staffordshire. If today was their chance to make it to the final of the Bucks Cup for the first time the omens were there. Andy lost the toss which was probably a good thing as we were unsure of the best tactic to defend or attack. It proved to be the right decision as firstly Chris Cann then Abhay Mayer ripped through the heart of the Tring batting line up and only some clean hitting from the lower order gave Tring a reasonable total.

Amersham knew that the pitch was going to be their enemy as 178 in 45 wouldnt normally be a tough ask, however it proved to be a lot more eventful than previously thought. Tring opened up and extras were rattling along before Elliot knicked one behind to put Amersham under pressure straight away. Chris Cann the hero with the ball turned hero with the bat with a fluent partnership with Rob Viney. However most of the batsmen started well but never really quite got going. Rob falling to a good catch and Abhay giving his wicket up by going AWOL in his crease. This meant that the 2 Sunday skippers joined forces to try and rescue the game with Amersham needing 55 off the last 12 overs. Collison started nervously and the run rate shot up as the first two of these overs went for only 1 run. The pressure was starting to build and both batsmen had to start playing their shots or all would be in vain. Collison managed to have most of the strike however and mixed his liquorice allsorts with some fine strokeplay(well 1 massive six over the bowlers head with 2 overs to go!). Andy fell to one that cut back and it was down to Collison to steer the Amersham ship home. Stuart knew what he had to do get bat on ball as we needed 8 off the last 2 overs, right shot but wrong line meant Stuart went back to the changing with a golden. Enter Monty not required to bowl but definately helped the tired Collison over the line. 5 needed off the last over Monty hit 3 and Collison was set to hit the winning runs when he left it to go for a wide. Amersham won by 3 wickets and celebrated afterwards watching the highlights of Englands historic win over Australia to reclaim the Ashes. I think that Amershams performance was somewhat better!
