Match report Amersham fell to their third consecutive defeat when Cove visited Shardeloes on Saturday. Having been inserted Cove set off circumspectly, with opening batsmen Randall and Carter playing watchfully. Their removal in consecutive overs with the score in the twenties changed the game as Cove, from then on, scored at over 5 an over. Neil Randall led the way with a vicious assault, scoring 41 from 28 balls and all the other batsmen showed great attacking intent. Abhay Mayer (5-60) and Stuart Rogers (4-52) bowled well for Amersham, and they were well supported by some fine catching in the deep by Richard Stephenson, Chris Fleming and Chris Owen who all took catches on the boundary. At tea, 217 seemed a competitive but attainable score. However, Cove's overseas opening bowler Vineet Sinha (6-28) had different ideas and he exploited some variable bounce and lateral movement to work his way through the Amersham order. Many of the host's batsmen worked diligently, as a 50 minute 2nd wicket partnership between Chris Owen and Dan Colquhoun demonstrated. Chris Fleming's 29 and Andy Viney's 27 were good innings in trying circumstances, and Abhay Mayer's 26 included some fine hits. However, wickets fell too regularly and the game was lost with 5 overs to go.
