Match report The Cockspur cup continued at Shardeloes this Sunday where Amersham played host to a strong Wycombe side. Amersham won the toss and elected to bowl.
The Rogers brothers opened the attack with good discipline creating pressure and forcing the Wycombe top order to make mistakes. The Wycombe batsmen seemed to find it hard to play their expansive shots on a wicket that offered a little seam movement for the bowlers. Thus they found themselves 91 for 7. However Sketchely (69) was more patient and batted well taking Wycombe to a total of 209.
R Viney and C Owen batted well against the new ball taking Amersham to 74 before Owen was caught. Colqhoun and Fleming fell quickly bringing Hugh Jackson (64) to the crease. He batted exceptionally well,pacing his innings by blocking the good balls and dispatching the bad. He was accompanied by A Mayer (13) and A Viney (21) taking Amersham to well within reach of the required score. A Viney played a loose shot and was caught and was followed by H Jackson. This left the last 3 batsmen needing 5 runs off the last over, B Matthews and S Rogers were both bowled leaving J Rogers needing 2 off the last ball. He managed to scramble a single but was then run out.
Overall, Amersham gave a good account of themselves but couldn’t quite clinch the win.
