Match report In the first round of the National Cockspur T20 we faced a strong Gerrards Cross team and were soundly beaten. Bowling first, we got off to a solid start with Ward and Goulash (1-17 off 4 overs) keeping it tight. A couple of early wickets brought together GX captain Steve Rimmer (81) and Jonny Hughes (56) for the partnership that took the game away from us. We didn't help by dropping both with chances that should have been taken, but their ability to pepper the short, straight boundary down at the pavilion end made it hard to exhert much pressure. Andy Viney bowled well (including a wicket maiden!) and Elliott did a commendable job in the difficult last overs. 170 was a good score on a slow pitch but still gettable.
We started slowly against some steady bowling with the keeper standing up. Spitty (38) showed signs of getting going, but when we lost him, Calhoon and Andy V in quick succession we were always going to struggle to get close. Some lusty blows from Ward, Dolleymore, Rogers and Alex Matthews kept things entertaining, but GX were always in control and held all of their catches in the deep.
Disappointing not to get closer, but we'll always have the Bucks Cup Final to look back on!!!!!
