Match report It is often said that cricket matches are won through partnerships and this was shown to be true on Saturday when Amersham travelled to Finchampstead on Saturday but came away disappointed after being bowled out for 142 in pursuit of a victory total of 223. A third wicket partnership of 65 between Chris Owen (59) and Paul Langley (33) was the highlight of the run chase, but, after Langley's dismissal, a clatter of wickets fell. Owen's innings was excellent, characterised by crisp drives and intelligent placement, but the next highest partnership (18) was for the final wicket in a vain attempt to draw the game. Earlier Amersham bowled well and fielded generally tidily. Charley Crasborn (3-77) showed great determination and strength during a marathon spell, while David Atkinson (3-47) and Alex Lines (1-52) supported him well with lengthy spells of their own. Crasborn and Jack Rogers (1-23) removed both openers cheaply before the bulk of Finchampstead's runs came from 2 partnerships of 67. First Dan Marles (81) and Gary Loveday (46) accelerated before Loveday was bowled by Owen (1-18). Then Dan Lincoln (24) joined Marles in a threatening partnership that was only ended by a superb catch in the deep by Tom Player when Lincoln mistimed a drive. Marles eventually fell mistiming a sweep to short fine leg before the Finchampstead lower order traded runs and wickets with Crasborn and Atkinson in roughly equal measure to finish on 223-9.
