Match report Saturday saw Amersham 2nds comprehensively beaten by OMT as the visitors maintained their excellent start to the season. Having invited the visitors to bat first on a pitch that seemed as if it would offer some assistance to the bowlers, the early exchanges were dominated by the Amersham opening bowlers with a smart gully catch by Sidebottom accounting for Gudka off "sicknote" Rogers, and Ollie Lansdowne removing the dangerous Modi with neither batsmen having troubled the scorers. When another smart catch by Nick Nguyen saw Booth dismissed with the score on 37, there was little hint of what was to come. Fienburg and Marshall started the rebuilding process, and aided by some poor fielding and loose bowling the momentum shifted decisively in OMT's favour. Together the pair added 130 for the 4th wicket and Fienburg went on to amass a hard hit 138, mixing hard hitting with some finely judged running. The Amersham bowlers were simply unable to control proceedings and the visitors finally declared at 277-7.
A solid start was required if Amersham were to entertain any hopes of chasing down such a target, but at 46-4 in the 10th over there was only ever going to be one outcome. Most of the Amersham top order batsmen fell as a result of rash strokes rather than good bowling, and thereafter the innings finished tamely as the lower order were unable to see the home side even earn the consolation of a solitary batting point on what was still an excellent batting surface. Some lessons need to be learned, especially the twin virtues of disciplined bowling and batsmen not giving away their wickets cheaply.
Next week sees Amersham visit Windsor where it is to be hoped that our season can be brought quickly back on track.
