St Albans v AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 on Sun 08 Jun 2014 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 108 runs

Match report There are some weeks when you write down a teamsheet that you are very confident with. When the green ticks of 'available' start appearing, and the emails confirming availability come flooding through, you become even more confident. By 10am on Sunday morning (when no one has declared themselves out of the game due to injury or a hangover) I was anticipating our first league win. We weren't disappointed.

The members of 9a Cambridge Road turned up (on time) to be greeted by Raza and Robbie. All other members of the team were being held up by Joe Shuttle running the half marathon which was coincidentally in St Albans. Much aggressive overtaking was done and we won the toss.

We batted first. It's an age old Sunday tactic to bat first. The aim of the game being to score as many runs as possible, as flamboyantly as possible, with the aerial route being the preferred option. After the first ten overs it was clear that 250 was on. After 45 we had managed 312 due to a brilliant knock by Andy Viney; a well paced innings with a 360 degree scoring area. Praise must go to Hugh Jackson and Stefano (as the Bucks Free Press now knows him) Joubert who got the innings off to a flier.

The total was far too many for St Albans to chase down. As usual, Stuart bowled well at the start. An aggressive spell where we always threatened to take a wicket. Robbie Marsh was the pick of the spinners and was denied a 5-for after 2 drop catches from one Alex Lines (more is expected of our senior cricketers - I can only apologies on Linesy's behalf, Robbie).

The strangest dismissal of the day reads in the book as - st. B. Langley, bowled Alex Lines. Only the players there that day will understand the circumstance (well done Sulieman Benn).

A good win for the Sham and off to winning ways in the league. 1st division Chess Valley here we come.
