After last week’s thumping win against Cove , Gerrards Cross were brought back down to earth by Amersham in Saturday's derby, losing by 68 runs.

Amersham made a slow start against the swinging, seaming ball, but Andy Viney led the way with a solid 65 as Amersham reached 107-3 after 30 overs.
However, some sloppy fielding and undisciplined bowling in the latter overs boosted Amersham’s final score to 221, about 30 more than they should have been allowed.

Hugh Jackson was at the centre of the late flurry with an unbeaten 40, while Richard Knudsen and Elliott Green both finished with figures of 3-40 for the Cross.

In reply, the Cross recovered after the loss of two early wickets, including skipper Matthew Watson for a duck and opener Sam Westaway for one, with James Crosthwaite (70) dominating a third wicket stand of 73 with Dan Hampton as they wrestled back the initiative.

But after the loss of both Crosthwaite and Hampton in quick succession, the wheels fell off and the remaining batsmen tamely surrendered from 104-3 to 153 all out, and only Sam Bracey (23) making it into double figures.

Maduka Liyanapathiranage did the damage for Amersham, taking 4-6 in five overs as the Cross’ innings crashed and burned in double quick time, while Nicholas Buchanan chipped in with 3-19 from 8.1.
