Farnham Royal v AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 on Sun 18 May 2008 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Lost by 6 wickets

Match report Amersham travelled the short journey down the A355 to Farnham Royal on a sunny but chilly day. All thoughts of the previous weeks run chase were put to bed and we were determined to start the season with a win. We travelled minus Huw Thomas who after a night on the sauce suddenly realised his car had been left in the old town and not in the driveway of his house. We arrived to find one of the hardest pitches any of us had seen in early May and there was only one choice to win the toss and bat. Inzi did just that and Andy Viney and Elliot went to the crease with some strict instructions to take their time and to not give their wicket away. Elliot somehow forgot this and went charging down the wicket and a direct hit sent him back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. In came Rob Viney who after last weeks heriocs at Harrow Town pushed at a widesh delivery and after a promising start Amersham were struggling on 34 for 2. In came Nik who knew he had to build a partnership with fellow skipper Viney. They put on 84 for the 3rd wicket although most of the runs came from the bat of Andy as Nik was struggling to move his feet until he somehow managed to top edge a six over cover. Andy continued to smash the ball all over the park and fell unluckily for 99 a great knock which allowed us to move towards a respectable total. Harry 'not out' Heslop continued his fine form with another splendid display of batting. Anyone who likes a bet should bet on a another not out from Harry this coming weekend. Amersham finished their innings on 188 for 5 knowing some tight bowling would see an interesting game.

After the fantastic spread the ball was given to young Mckay and Stuart Rogers and there was hope that we could restrict them early. However we encountered Jamaica's opening batsmen who had recently returned from the KFC cup and he decided he had places to go. He took our bowling attack apart and quickly went from 50 in 41 balls to 92 in 61 balls before Andy Viney tempted into one too many flashes outside off stump and Rob took a regulation catch behind the sticks. Andy continued his man of the match performance and bowler what can only be described as the best bouncer/yorker combination anyone had ever seen. Having nearly taken the bowlers head off the previous ball the batsmen the bails removed the following ball. Phil Tansey came on a bowled a tidy spell and was unlucky to only take one wicket as was Matt Mckay who bowled superbly, again without any luck.

Unfortunately Santokie's knock had taken the game away from us, however praise goes to everyone who played as we fought to the end and never gave up. It was truly fantastic to witness that and the never say die attitude will stand us in good stead for the rest of the campaign.

North Maidenhead at home next week lets get our first win sooner rather than later
