Match report A disappointing effort in all departments from Amersham this week. On an overcast day with the threat of rain never far away, Newbury won the toss and elected to bat first on a damp wicket that we thought would offer our seam attack some assistance. Unfortunately we lacked the discipline of line and length which helped Newbury get off to a flyer. The catching and fielding was also below par as a number of sharp chances that were taken the previous week managed to be spilled. Amersham's bowling improved in the second half of their innings and Newbury declared on 230 for 6 leaving Amersham 50 overs to get the runs. Charlie Holloway being the pick of the Amersham bowlers taking 3-28 off his 9 overs. Amersham's reply was steady to start with as Neil Palmer (46) & Evan Hamilton-Pike (36) took the score on to 97 for 3 off 26 overs. Just as Amersham looked to increase the tempo their cause was not helped by two dubious LBW decisions sending both Steve Emsley & Asa Bridle back to the not so comfortable pavilion. After losing three wickets on 97 and two on 117 it was left to James Dolleymore (17) and David Sidebottom (23)to give the score an air of respectability with some lusty blows, Amersham finally subsiding meekly to 149 all out, some seven overs away from the bad end of a draw. Yet again we failed to bat our allocation of overs and a much better performance, especially with the bat, will be required next week when we face Hampton Hill. Both teams already languishing at the foot of the Div 3a table!
