Match report Yet another case of not getting enough runs on the board!

After a evening and morning of heavy drizzle, the new covers and sidesheets definitely came into their own as play commenced only fifteen minutes late. Gerrards Cross won the toss and not suprisingly asked Amersham to bat first. Amersham started off well with a couple of thumping cover drives from Sidebottom (15) but unfortunately was caught at point by Gary Hales, playing perhaps one shot too many, with the score on 26. Nick Piper anchored the innings well, but needed at least one of the top seven to stick in with him to post a challenging target. This did not happen as the middle order was swept away by the accurate bowling of Peace and Bruce. Apart from a spirited 10 from David McKay no other Amersham batsman passed 3 runs. Nick Piper hit a well deserved and gritty half century before holing out on the boundary trying to increase the run rate. Amersham falling to 116 all out after 44 overs.

Gerrards Cross were concerned about the rain returning and immediately started playing their shots. It wasn't until the first wicket fell at 50 did the Amersahm bowling start to exert some pressure. Duncan Ward (3-53) bowled superbly from the far end whilst Piper juggled the bowling from the pavilion end. David Sidebottom (2-8) was brought into the attack and backed up by some excellent fielding wickets started to fall but in the end we just didn't have enough runs to defend. Gerrards Cross reaching their target with four wickets intact.

Many thanks to the team who played with such good spirit. We must work on our batting and learn to give our strong bowling attack something to work with. Anyone for batting practice on Thursday!
