Match report A good weekend of results for both the Saturday and Sunday 1st XIs was topped off with a home win against Sunday friendly side Oak Hill.

After losing the toss and being asked to field, we reluctantly put on our whites and the match was under way. Charlie Fallan opened up and was unlucky not to take a wicket in his first over with a good display of consistent away swing. After complaining about a whole catalogue of injuries (certainly enough to rival an OAP with hypochondria), Stuart bowled economically at full pace. Highlights included the batsman walking into his bouncers, and Hugh wearing one in the throat at first slip after only managing fingertips from an edge. Blangie kept well and managed to pick up two catches and two stumpings from the combined spin effort of AV, Hugh and Maduka.

If we thought this would be an easy chase of 153 from our allotted 40 overs, we were soon proved wrong when the Oak Hill opening bowlers start racking up the MPH with genuine swing. After they had bowled out, we had lost 4 wickets for 65 runs (including a Freddie Bowcock one bounce four over mid on). The first change bowlers were a little more manageable and Andy Viney took an instant liking, scoring an uncharacteristic 55 not out from very few balls. We scored our next 70 runs in 6 overs and closed off the game. Blangie stuck in and batted through for 21 and the red ink.

Downsiders next week in another friendly match. Last year we lost by 7 wickets under Stuart's captaincy and we will look to restore the balance this year!
