Match report Amersham v Cookham Dean

The Amersham season ended disappointingly with a narrow defeat against Cookham Dean by just one wicket. It was close very close but was always going to be a match affected by the weather. In a bid to get a result Amersham attached from the off and with Woody Bowcock and Andy Vinet in fine form ably supported lower down the order by Luke Jackson they rushed to 169 off 30 overs.

It was nearly enough and when Alex Lines took 3 wickets in 4 balls to reduce the home side to 160-9 it looked like a victory was very possible but Quereshi battled for the last 10 runs as Cookham Dean ran out winners by just one wicket.

In the end the result didn’t matter as Oxford also won confirming them in 2nd place and promotion. Amersham, 3rd for the second year running, will have to try again next year.

The 2nd XI too were unlucky as having bowled leaders Hayes out for 203 were not given the opportunity to bat at all as heavy stopped proceedings at tea. By then Bagshot, in 3rd place at the start of the day, had bowled out BA for 84 and won by tea time so leapfrogging the Shardeloes men into a promotion slot. Like the 1st XI they finished 3rd just out of a promotion place.

It was good news for the 3rd XI though who achieved the 4 points they needed at Hayes to be confirmed as Div 5a champions.

So near and yet so far for the men of Shardeloes but champions and two 3rd’s is not a bad effort at all for a seasons work.
