Chalfont St Peter 1st v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 on Sat 09 Jul 2005 at 1:30pm
AMERSHAM CC Won 127 Runs

Match report Amersham bounced back from last weeks drawn match to secure a convincing 127 run win against Chalfont St Peter.
Chalfont St Peter won the toss and asked Amersham to bat first on a slightly damp green wicket. Amersham got off to a solid start scoring 12 off the first over and openers Rob Viney and Andy Robertson set the platform for a big score as they plundered 75 off 18 overs for the first wicket. Robertson played a very controlled innings and Rob Viney attacked the bowling with glee before falling for 42.

Robertson (65) and Chris Owen (26) added 72 in a good partnership before both fell with the score at 147. With 18 overs left Dan Colquhuon and Paul Weston started carefully to make sure Amersham didn't lose any further wickets and then attacked as they pushed the score past 200 in the 46th over. With only six overs remaining they looked to up the run rate and make an imposing target for Chalfont St Peter. Colquhuon was bowled by Din for 43 with the score on 212. Paul Weston swung the willow and added 20 runs before Andy Viney was caught. Weston was joined by Duncan Ward and Amersham ended up on 232 - 5 and declared after 50 overs.

Chalfont St Peters reply got off to a good start with F Ahmed and R Punj showing intent on chasing the target by rattling up 13 in 3 overs before Ahmed was undone by one that kept low from Tom Dixon and trapped him in front. Chalfont carried on blazing away and had reached 35 in 8 overs when Punj tried to launch Atkinson over the top only to find the safe hands of Nick Moore at mid off.

Atkinson then struck again in his next over to reduce Chalfont to 41-3 with Chris Owen taking a good catch at slip. Khan and Din then looked to rebuild the innings as the Chalfont Innings started to stall. Good bowling by Atkinson and Mustapha Rajabali made life difficult for the Chalfont batsmen. Rajabali was rewarded for his patience when Khan edged one to the safe hands of Chris Owen at slip and left Chalfont 63 - 4. after 21 overs. The match was slipping away from Chalfont as Amersham maintained the pressure. Chalfont St Peter started to play with a more cautious approach in an attempt to frustrate Amersham and deny them a win.

Rajabali struck again in the 30th over when he had Din caught by Rob Viney at mid off. Chalfont were now 89 - 5 with the prospect of trying to bat out the last 20 overs to save the game. After a fine spell from Atkinson a change of bowling and taking the new ball brought the next wicket with Duncan Ward trapping Sharma in front to make it 92 - 6. in the 32nd over. Amersham now needed 4 wickets in 18 overs to secure a victory Another change of bowling saw Nick Moore replace Ward and he struck in his 2nd over to remove S Ahmed. Chalfont were now 96 - 7 and still had to survive 12 overs.

Moore and Rajabali bowled well and it was a matter of time before Amersham mopped up the tail. Mander was unlucky as he was run out from a direct hit by Rob Viney and Banner was caught by Dan Colquhuon to make it 100 - 9. Nick Moore took the final wicket in the 42nd over as M Ahmed watched the ball spin back and trickle into the stumps with just enough speed to dislodge the bail.
