Match report Amersham made a timely move to the top of the Morrant Thames Valley Division Two table with a thrilling last-over victory at Eversley.

Chasing a healthy Amersham total of 238 for nine, the home side looked to have survived the onslaught and were poised to bat out the last six balls and claim the draw on 209. But Tim Aylott clean bowled their last man to book a thrilling victory with his third wicket of the game. And with Matthew Ash picking up three for 35, the Amersham bowling attack continued their fine form and carried on the excellent work from their batsmen.

Earlier Jon Atkins had set the tone for the day with a sturdy innings of 70 that dampened the considerable enthusiasm of the Eversley bowlers and paved the way for some brief, yet vital, cameos, further down the card. Skipper Jeremy Fisher hit 26 and Suresh Perumal added 44. Number 10 Ash gave an indication of his form with a quick-fire 20, before playing his part with the ball in the table-topping win.

And with nearest rivals Cove and Hurst both being held to draws, Amersham’s fourth successive triumph means they have times their charge to perfection. With five games left the title is a distinct possibility.
