AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 v Richings Park on Sat 19 Aug 1995 at
AMERSHAM CC Won by 159 runs

Match report Amersham extended their lead at the top of the Thames Valley Division Two table as they swept aside Richings Park on Saturday at Shardeloes to continue their surge towards promotion and the title. A solid team performance secured this maximum points win, Suresh Perumal and Pete Butler starring with the bat and Tim Aylott and Sam Martin starring with the ball.

Despite losing Matthew Ash and Jeremy Fisher early on, the home side posted a big target as they struck the Richings Park bowlers to all parts of the ground. Butler dug in and played anchor role while Perumal was at his best as he peppered the boundaries with his strokeplay. He raced to his half-century off just 38 balls as the pair added 132 for the third wicket. Perumal hit 14 fours, scoring at a run a minute. Butler held the Amersham innings together and reached his 50 in 89 balls, laying the foundation to allow the other batsmen to come in and play their shots. Renny Adams hit three glorious extra cover drives in his 24 and Jon Andrews scored at a run a ball before chipping to mid-on. Martin finished unbeaten on 22.

Richings Park never recovered from a disastrous start to their reply. Aylott and Martin ripped through the top order as the visitors subsided to 26-5. Prabakhar proved stubborn to remove before Aylott had him caught by Perumal as he mis-hooked a bouncer. He was out for 20 with the score at 42. Asa Bridle took a superb catch at third slip on his debut to dismiss Wheeler and give Aylott his fourth wicket. Aylott finished with figures of 4-42 off 12 overs, four maidens. Martin’s mean bowling produced 3-34 off 15 overs with five maidens. Ash removed the last two wickets earning victory with nearly 17 overs to spare.

It was the icing on the cake for Amersham captain Jeremy Fisher who celebrated his birthday on Saturday. The win was enhanced by results elsewhere going Amersham’s way. The Shardeloes men now lead Cove by seven points and are pulling away from Marlow (third) and Hurst (fourth) who failed to achieve a result at Pound Lane due to bad light. With four games to go, Amersham’s aim is to clinch promotion before the last fixture at Cove.
