Kidmore End v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 02 May 2009 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Won By 4 wickets

Match report Amersham 2's recorded their first victory of the season on Saturday away at Kidmore End with a thrilling run chase culminating in a 4 wicket win.
Deciding to field first, the new Amersham skipper led his team out with high hopes of a clinical bowling display backed up by a masterclass in ground fielding. As the Kidmore End hundred came up with loss of no wickets after only 16 overs, it could be said the hneymoon period had not lasted very long!
A very short uphill boundary, a long, yet lightening fast, downhill boundary and some lusty blows meant the opening bowlers of Ward and Gill had their work cut out. The fielding masterclass was also not evident with a couple of makeable chances being put down early on.
The introduction of Hamilton-Pike and Sidebottom replacing the very full Ward and unlucky Gill brought some stability to the innings but it was not until the introduction of Ash that the first wicket fell - Ward shaking the years off with a tumbling (or stumbling catch) at mid off. New was sill causing havoc and it was not until Emsley's mix of slower balls and away swingers got going that he was finally out, 11 short of a hundred - a fabulous boundary catch by Gill.
With New gone Amersham hoped to keep the opposition to under 220 in their alloted 45 overs but Busuri had a penchant for six hitting over the extra cover boundary and was not choosey about the bowler! His quick fire 68 meant a manageable 220 became a mountainous 263-4.
A quick start was required and the Amersham openers duly obliged. Cowley mixed patience with some beautiful cover drives, whilst Ketteringham (newly returned from drinking in Oz) was hard on anything short and wide. Having passed the 50 partenrship our new umpire, Theaker, decided he wanted to be included in the match report and duly gave Cowley out LBW. To the wicket came a rejuvinated Weston, and he and Ketteringham continued at the required run rate putting on 80 odd with the latter beginning to exploit the short leg side boundary. At 120 for 1 after 20 overs the Amersham batting collapse was nigh - Ketteringham hit down cow corners' throat for a well crafted 75, Weston running down the wicket and missing for 40 and Emsley softly returning a catch to the bowler for 1.
Kidmore's rejuvination was shortlived however as the middle-order (comprising of nigh on 300 years of ACC service) strolled Amersham home with 3 overs to spare. I Rogers with 37, Hamilton Pike with 14, Ash 17* and Ward 28* completed the good work done at the top of the order
A fantastic victory with contributions from everyone - a good season beckons!
