AMERSHAM CC Won By 8 Wickets

Match report AMERSHAM BEAT THE RAIN & HAMMER SLOUGH
Amersham 2's returned to winning ways at Shardeloes with a comprehensive 8 wicket victory over Slough 3's
The fifth toss loss in a row meant ACC were asked to bowl first on a dank day with a wicket that, despite used, was hard and true, if a little green. Opening from the pavilion end Ward, returning from a sojourn in the 1st's, bowled as though he was trying to get himself dropped again. Thankfully, at the other end Rogers appeared to be trying to get himself promoted. Quick, swinging deliveries in his first over accounted for Manish and the dangerous Johnny (never a good thing) in consecutive balls - the hat trick ball making the umpire think long and hard about a close LBW.
A brief rain break not only gave the Slough team an opportunity to regroup but also literally seemed to take the shine off the ball and on the resumption of play, Rogers had lost a key weapon.
Paminder (44)- a class above all other Slough batters - started to take control and, with the support of Ghazi (22), rebuilt the innings.
As Rogers came to the end of his designated spell so Ward started to find his line and length and the increasing run rate was halted.
Ward has played a lot of cricket in his time but experienced a first - being high-fived by the (their) umpire following a wicket. A swinging ball earlier in the over had been well!!! left by Ghazi, so Ward bowled the same line but of fuller length and clipped the top of middle as the batsmen shouldered arms once more - the reaction of the umpire obviously upset the Slough team as they went into free-fall
Rajabali placated Paminder whilst Ward and the fielders concentrated on the new batters. Two run outs (yes Weston was involved) including Paminder, a caught and bowled from Ward that damaged his beautiful nail extensions, and the classic caught long on from Rajabali decimated the middle order. Although this sounds very quick fire, there was a period of 15 overs where the run rate only just crept above 1 an over - not only bloody dull but it gave the building clouds a chance to move closer to Shardeloes.
A bit of filth from Ash and a slow motioin stumping from Ketteringham off Rajabali completed the Slough dismissal for a lowly 110.
Thankfully Sam was still recovering from working with Harry the night before at the Ball, so tea was delayed, allowing a brief 40 miniute session for Amersham to get their reply under way
Surprisingly taking the new ball, Slough bowled a wide (too wide on many occasions) line to the still slightly drunk opening bats (depsite the attempts of the skipper to stop their drinking at aforementioned Ball).
Ketteringham took full advantage, continuing his love affair with batting against Slough 3's
At tea, a score of 47 comprised of 5 extras, 2* to Cowley, and the rest to Ketteringham. Whilst enjoying chicken wings, wedges and a fabulous cheese board (well the bits left after Rogers had hoovered his way through), the rain appeared. And it looked set to stay for the duration.
The weather Gods though, appeared to be on our side. As the Smellies arrived from Barn Meadow so the rain stopped and Amersham were able to continue their chase with no time lost.
Ketteringham continued his much needed return to form being particularly harsh on anything full. His 50 was reached in 51 balls with the score on 62 and included 10 fours.
At the other end Cowley was playing a typically watchful innings but fell with the introduction of the leg spin of Raj - a season average of 96 against Slough is not to be sniffed at. Weston strode to the wicket with just over 40 to win with a very tempting brand new BMW 6 series parked at mid-wicket for that evenings Hollywood themed Challoners Ball.
Sensible rotation of strike gave Ketteringham the opportunity to continue his belligerent innings but one blow too many brought an entertaining display to an end - a season average of 95 against Slough means they are probably thankful they don't have to play ACC again!
Weston and Palmer saw us home with plenty of overs and wickets to spare and just in the nick of time. The rain began five minutes after the victory had been secured - unfortunately everyone else in the league also managed to get a game in but a return to winning ways was much enjoyed.
