AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Frogs on Sun 12 Sep 2010 at 11:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 72 runs
Match report
Amersham ended the season in fine style with a comfortable win over Frogs. Amersham won the toss and elected to bat first. Paul Weston and Ben Matthews got the innings off to a solid start putting on 63 for the first wicket before Weston was bowled for 21. Amerham then suffered a mini collapse with Hugh Jackson and Ben Matthews (47) falling in quick succession. This brought Alex Matthews and Harry Heslop together who easily saw the side thorugh to lunch with Alex passing 50 to leave Amersham in charge at 151 - 3. Both continued the good work after lunch with Heslop pushing the singles and Matthews crashing the ball to the boundary and closing in on what would be his first century. The partnership was finally ended after Alex had passed three figures. Heslop continued to bat well and passed 50 as Amersham set Frogs a target of 250.
Frogs got off to a steady start with both openers looking to finish the game as quickly as possible. Before both were caught off the bowling off Stuart and Jack Rogers. Amersham then turned to the young leg spinners of Ben Matthews and Chris Cooke after tea to take control of the game. Frogs then imploded and found batting difficult and the steady loss of wickets meant they were falling further behind the required run rate. The game was finally won after Chris Cooke took 3 wickets and Ben Matthews finishing with 5 wickets.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Alex Lines and the family Matthews for all their efforts this year. it has been a pleasure to play cricket with you all this season and wish you all the best on your return to Australia. Hopefully we will see you all again at Shardeloes.
Hope everyone has a great winter and see you all next year
