AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Farnham Common on Sat 28 Aug 2010 at 12:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 143 runs
Match report
Amersham secured a convincing win against already relegated Farnham Common. Amersham lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a damp wicket. Paul Weston and Nick Piper got Amersham off to a steady start as conditions made scoring difficult. They put on 31 in 15 overs before Westom was bowled round his legs. Oli Haddock then joined Piper who moved the score on to 43 before Piper was out. Haddock was joined by Hugh Jackson and both looked comfortable against the Farnham Common attack. Jackson was unlucky when a straight drive from Haddock was deflected onto the stumps with Jackson out of his ground leaving Amersham 62 - 3 after 23 overs. Dolleymore was next to go and Amersham were struggling at 74 - 4 after 26 overs. Haddock was joined by Ward and between them with caution they moved the score on to 150 off 41 overs before Haddock fell for a well crafted 72. Ward was joined by Dixon and then Chris Cooke (who was unfortunately run out by the skipper) before Ward and McKay pushed the score on to 199 from 49 overs. Ward then went for 63 and the final 2 wickets fell with the addition of 1 run leaving Amersham 200 all out off 49.5 overs.
Amersham took the old ball and started with Dixon and Ward (trying to replace Rajabali) and got off to a decent start with Ward trapping Wilcox lbw with the score on 12. In the same over a good bit of fielding from McKay caused a run out and Farnham were struggling at 13 - 2. Dixon soon made it 26 - 3 with a quality ball that took the top of off stump. Ward was replaced by Chris Cooke making his 2nd team debut. He soon got into the action and took a decent caught and bowled chance to leave Farnham 34 - 4. Cooke followed this up taking the next 2 wickets to leave Farnham struggling at 51 - 6. A change at the other end saw McKay take over from Dixon and he soon took the 7th wicket. Cooke then completed his first senior 5 wicket hall in a match ending up with impressive figures of 5 - 12 and McKay wrapped things up taking the last wicket in the 25 over and Farnham were all out for 57.
A good team performance that may give the side a chance of avoiding the drop with one game to go.
