Match report Well that's how to snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat. More of the resistance later but first the Hayes innings. This was the battle for the top, 1st playing 2nd. The Hayes skipper won the toss and decided to bat. The Hayes opener goes for a quick single, Alex Rogers swoops and her direct hit has the crowd on their feet. She thinks he's out, the umpire says no, oh for a third umpire. The reprieved opener goes on to score 112 as Hayes amass 242 for 9 off 52. The other Alex bowls extremely well and quickly taking 5 for as the captain bemoans the old days when youngsters could bowl more than 7 overs in a spell.

In reply after a promising start from Alex Rogers and Inzi we soon find ourselves on 93 for 8 with 16 overs to play. It looked bleak as Colin Matthews promotes himself up the order to set about the task of holding out for a draw. He then proves the theory that the best form of defence is attack by smashing the ball around the park as he scores 44 in a stand of 54 with Tom Ayling batting very sensibly at the other end. But learning the true Amersham spirit of adventure is such short a time with us, Colin decides to let Felix have a bat with three balls left of the penultimate over. The crowd were on tenterhooks, how would young Felix cope with the pressure? Well, we needn't have worried. Three solid forward defensive shots later left Tom to see us to safety with cool headed calmness as he batted out the last over.

Well played the youngsters. We swapped places with Hayes after this match but are only seven points behind, not seventeen. It might be important.
