Match report Amersham made the 40 minute journey to Oxford to find a wet wicket that would delay the start by one hour and see the match shortened to 37 over’s per team. Losing the toss Amersham were made to bat. A.Mayer (32) made a positive start and gave the visiting side hope but the early loss of R.Viney (9) slowed the run rate down. H.Jackson (11) played some nice strokes and looked to be forming a partnership with Mayer before an over eager call saw him run out. A.Viney (50) tried to rebuild the innings as well as keeping the scoreboard moving with some lusty blows, mainly from one knee. The batsmen to follow all found it hard to score and Amersham found themselves all out for 143.
Mayer and C. Tilbury opened the bowling but a strong oxford batting line up made it hard to keep the run rate down let alone take wickets. L.Jackson , O.Lansdowne and A. Viney also found it hard to stop the Oxford batsmen scoring freely. 13 year old Woody Bowcock made a good Sunday debut bowling 3 very well controlled over’s and should have perhaps come on slightly earlier. Oxford made light work of reaching the required total and completed the task in 25th over.
