AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 v Ruislip on Sat 12 Jul 2014 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 50 runs
Match report
The second half of the season began and with Amersham sat in first place and Ruislip second from bottom, we were confident going into this fixture and maybe a little over confident.
It all started well with Blangie winning the toss for a second week in a row an deciding again to bat first. However this didn't seem like the best choice as we soon found ourselves at 33-4! Ali (26) and Player (22) batted sensibly together and with Douglas scoring 34 including two sixes into the cornfield we limped our way to a total of 136 all out. For the first time this season the sandwiches didn't digest as comfortably as we were use to.
.
We knew we had to bowl Ruislip out to win and what would be an unlikely 25 points. I say unlikely but when you have Luke Douglas in your side then 136 is definitely defendable. Douglas (8-26) and Ahmed (0-16) opened the bowling with the old ball and after two overs were bowled Ruislip found themselves cruising to victory at 16-0 with both Douglas and Ahmed's first overs going for 8 runs. Then Douglas really turned it on and bowled a wonderful spell of left arm spin which resulted in him bowling 14 overs, 18 runs conceded and 8 crucial wickets. He was on for all ten wickets until run outs from Player and Colquhoun ruined that plan. The fielding was excellent as was the spell of bowling with the old ball by Jack Rogers (0-28) who deserved at least a couple of wickets.
Considering the situation at halfway this was a crucial 25 point victory and increases our lead at the top of the league to 28 points. We may have a healthy lead but there are still 8 hugely important games to go starting at Marlow on Saturday. Our batting must improve but most importantly let's keep winning.
