AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 v Wokingham 2 on Sat 23 Aug 2008 at 12:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 122 runs
Match report
Amersham achieved a comforatable win against Wokingham 2nd XI on Saturday at Shardeloes. Captain Luke Jackson won the toss and briefly considered bowling first. Then he returned to his usual strategy and chose to bat. The absence of Chrsi Fleming created a vacancy at the top of the order which was filled by Dan Colquhoun. This paid immediate dividends as the score raced to 8 off the first over. In partnership with Andy Vinay, Colquhoun adapted well to his new role and dominated the first 2 hours of the game as he accumulated 79 off 86 balls. Colquhoun has often frustrated his team mates this season. Blessed with an absurd amount of talent his ability to get himself out through playing silly shots has been second to none. Wokingham, however, must be fed up of with the sight of him since he has scored 190 runs in two innings against them. Viney was caught LBW with the score on 67, but momentum was not lost as Chris Cann settled in quickly and demonstrated his class in scoring 43. As the innings developed all the Amersham batsmen contributed significantly. Acceleration towards the end of the innings was provided by Jackson, whose 44 included 7 boundaries. 237 was a competitive total, and the Amersham side looked forward to taking the field to defend their
It came as little surprise that Jackson turned to his spinners to open the bowling. David Atkinson (1-46) and Matt Ash (5-51) bowled 35 overs in tandem and bowled Wokingham out of the game. A mixture of extreme economy from Atkinson, and wicket taking action from Ash left Wokingham at 90-7 and Chris Cann delivered the coup de grace with a spell of 3-11 off 4 overs. This was an excellent performance from Amersham; something that they have been promising to deliver for a number of weeks now. The fielding was excellent as well, and mention should be made of Ollie Haddock's 3 catches, including 2 tricky skiers, and Tom Dixon's excellent & enthusiastic ground fielding.
