Match report Amersham defeated last season's runners-up Harefield on Saturday to get their season off to a flying start. Put into bat on a slow wicket on which stroke play was never easy, Amersham made a good start thanks to grafting innings from Chris Fleming (67) and brothers Robert and Andrew Viney, reaching 102-1 at the halfway stage of their innings. However, the dismissal of Fleming precipitated a slide as a succession of batsmen were unable to convert attractive cameos into sizeable contributions as Amersham finished on a disappointing 195-9.

Harefield adopted a cautious approach at the start of their innings with tight spells from Hanook Gill and Matt Crawley limiting them to 2 runs per over in the opening exchanges. Eventually, the pressure created by the rising required run rate caused a cluster of three wickets to fall in adjacent overs to Chris Owen and Crawley. Subsequently, Harefield were unable to keep pace with the target thanks to a subtle spell of off-breaks and arm-balls from Matt Ash who finished the game in a rush with four wickets in two overs, aided by three sharp slip catches from Crawley.
