Scorecard

Farnham Royal v AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 on Sun 10 May 2009 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Won 114 runs

Match report 3 wins out of 3 so far this season however it was the league title that Amersham were chasing and after posting sizeable totals in the past few weeks Amersham were again hoping to dominate with the bat against Farnham Royal. Collison won the toss and had no hesitation in electing to bat, considering half the team had been out on the weekly trip to Clapham and the 23 degree heat it was a good choice. Ketteringham(78) and Cowley(29), the heroes of yesterday after their partnership of 220 got the innings off to a solid start. Cowley had had enough and walked down the wicket, missed one and was duly stumped, he didnt really have any complaints and was glad to be back in the shade of the pavilion. Enter R Viney another week, another ton was his facebook status last Sunday but alas it was not to be this week. He managed to get Elliot running between the wickets and upped the run rate considerably with a fine knock just falling 3 short of his 50. The Janitor(23) entered the arena looking for the sweep shot from his third ball, a little too early perhaps but partners came and went Inzi chopping on Sarwan-esque for only 4. H decided he didnt fancy it and middled one to their fielder, called for a single and was duly run out. Robbie Marsh aka Kung Po Chicken was very unfortunate to be run out having not faced a single ball. Enter little and large A Viney and Alex Lines who put on 67 in just 5 overs. A Viney(62*) and A Lines(37*) helped Amersham pose a colossal total of 300 for 7 and it would be a tough ask for Farnham Royal to chase that total down.

Amersham started well with Stuart Rogers(0-39) and in particular Alex Lines(2-7) bowling a tight opening spell. At one point Alex faced some stern words from Phil Sidebottom for his apparently aggressive bowling, however at the first bowling change Farnham Royal never looked like they would chase this down. Sidebottom(1-28) and Marsh(3-41) bowled correctly with the odd loose ball going to the fence. This didnt matter as A Viney(1-22) and the Janitor(1-27) looked to finish the game quickly. Stuart Rogers decided he would use his head rather than his hands as one drive off the Janitor jumped shaprly and smacked him on the forehead. The funniest moment in cricket bar the earlier silent LBW appeal. Enter Inzamam Ul-Haq who decided to mark out his run up, even though he isnt a bowler. The first ball was ok, lets not talk about the rest almost bringing Farnham back into contention with 1 over for 14 runs. The quote from the boundary was, "please dont lose your dignity by bowling", oh well I never was one to take advice. Amersham wrapped up the win and due to the fact the team name begins with A, can safely say we are top of the league.
