Tiddington v AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 on Sun 05 Jul 2009 at 14:00
AMERSHAM CC Won 71 Runs
Match report
Amersham travelled down the M40 towards Oxford seeking to continue their unbeaten run against a Tiddington side whom they had dominated less than a month ago. The team arrived in 3 stages, H went across country, Inzi led Sidebottom and Haddock SNR. Finally Elliot, Hugh and Alex had arrived at the ground some 40 minutes earlier only for Elliot now knicked named TomTom to suggest they were in the wrong place, went in fact they weren't and managed to divert them 20 miles away the other side of Oxford. Nevertheless we managed to start just shortly after 2pm after Collison had won the toss and elected to bat. Collison was unsure what to do with the batting order and decided to open himself with TomTom. The pitch was mediocre and that was being generous, slow and low but it could only get worse, at least thats what the skipper thought. Collison(0) went first ball of the second over flicking the ball off his pads and was caught behind an unlucky dismissal and he had firmly put his name forward for TFC. TomTom was joined by Jackson a very similar partnership developed last night in Clapham, however it was one that was short lived as Jackson swiped at a wide half volley and chopped onto his stumps for only 7. Enter Philip Lines who had scored over 800 runs and averaged in the mid 40s, Collison needed him to resuce the innings and that he did with shots all over the ground including some very big Savoir Faire MAXIMUMS. TomTom had had enough and chipped one off to Long On for an impressive 48 having only got in hours before. Haddock supported Lines SNR(62) well and once Phil had gone for one too many shots Amersham lost 3 wickets for not a lot. Cowley(0) back to back ducks for the weekend and Haddock(23) both missed balls that kept low and bowled them. The skipper was panicking as we had gone from being comfortable to posting an unconvincing total. Enter BBQ James Dolleymore who continued to turn the skipper's hair grey by running out Lines JNR(10) and H(5), however he made up for it by bludgeoning 55* in just over 10 overs. Amersham finished on 239 for 9 ensuring this would be a difficult run chase.
Stuart Rogers(1-24) opened the bowling with a wayward spell and gifted a wicket when Mackie hit the ball into the ground to then bounce off his pad, elbow and glove and roll onto hit off stump. The start Amersham had wanted which was further enhanced when Alex Lines (4-21) had caught and bowled Goodman after Hugh and H had let the ball slip between them at 1st and 2nd both thinking the other was going for it. TomTom's day went from bad to worse as he let through a total of 33 extras, 27 byes, 1 leg bye and 5 wides. He did however manage to catch a slow half volley which put paid to Cooper's innings, something which was of great delight as he had managed to hold one. Lines continued to bowl accurately again taking 4 wickets, will he ever get 5? With the wickets falling Amersham switched off and the combination of Extras and some FILTHY shots meant Tiddington were keeping up with the run rate. Jackson bowled a brilliant spell of bowling(2-27) and then decided enough was enough and took the gloves from TomTom. There was time for Chris Cowley to take a diving catch off Sidebottom and H to take 2 wickets although his spell was far from miserly. Jackson removed Fox's bails with a quick piece of glovework and the win was complete.
Next week sees the game of the season 1st versus 2nd and could we put one hand on that trophy? I think so.
