Match report June……hardly!!!!!

Amersham lost the toss and were asked to bowl first - which the home team were delighted with. Conditions were very bowler friendly, more so than usual :)….. but the experienced HW opening pair batted sensibly until Tripathi ruined their opening stance on 53. Wickets never really came in bounds for the Team but no neither did the runs and HW ended up on 171-6 after their 45 overs. A reasonable total in challenging conditions. Tripathi was the pick of the bowlers, ending up with 4-29 off his 9 overs., it ably supported by Pradhan, Imam and Bryant.

Amersham started their innings in a circumspect manner with HW’s Muhtadi bowling particularly well - even though he ended up wicketless. However, wickets fell at a steady rate and the Team were reduced to 4-38 in the 15th over - much to do! The partnership that followed fairly much secured Amersham’s victory with newcomer to the club Copley and Aiden McPhillips putting on 90….and quietening a very noisy HW outfit. Their wicket keeper’s favourite chant was “Hakuna matata”….which ironically ( I think) means no worries….and was certainly a new one for this old boy. Nevertheless, no worries quickly turned to, oh crap we’re being hammered, as McPhillips batted sensibly and forcibly in his match winning 71*. Copley ended up with 35 but unfortunately gloved off with 40 runs to go and leaving a possible opening for HW. However Josh Briant secured the victory with 27* in short time.

A great win, for what was a really young team (6 under 15s) up against some wily old characters. Tidy bowling, good fielding and a superb,, but, tricky run chase!
