Scorecard

Ickenham 3 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 3rd X1 on Sat 31 May 2025 at 12:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 4 wickets

Match report Away to Ickenham on a rather warm day, with a quick outfield and scrub a plenty around the boundaries. This made for a much pressurised toss.......which the captain failed miserably with, despite using his own coin and having practiced several times before the big moment - who would've thought 5 tails could possibly come up! Anyway, back to cricket rather than the trivialities of probability, Ickenham got off to a bit of a flyer amassing near to 120 by the 15 overs drink break, for one, with one pulled up lame with a done hamstring. 2 lost balls and the home team becoming concerned that there wouldn't be enough spares to complete the innings. Session 1 to Ickenham. Session 2 and 3 however belonged to Amersham, with the wiley bowling of Atkinson and Sundarim slowing the rate rate down and sneaking a couple of wickets. But it was the introduction of the young Under 14 leg spinner Rylan Murphy that really ground the Ickenham team to a halt, with him bowling his 9 overs straight and taking 4 good wickets in the process for only 32 runs. This saw Ickenham reduced to 224 - rather than the 300 and 10 lost balls that looked ominous after 15 overs; a mighty come back and putting us in pole position.

Joe Shuttle and Ben Langley provided a solid start putting on 50 before the former decided to give the keeper some catching practice. Nervy times in the run chase followed as Amersham were reduced to 91-3, however the experience of Wensley and Langley saw the team through to 180, which turned out to be the match winning partnership, until Wensley chipped one back to the bowler with the dubious action. Langley ran out of steam on 66, being out twice in one go; stumped and snicking off. Younger Fleming, Sundarim and Chahal closed in on the total which was secured in the final over with four glorious byes.

A well managed run chase with highlights being Rylan's superb 4 wickets, and the more experienced Wensley and Langley getting some good runs, having both only finding their cricket kit that morning!

Next week Ruislip at home.
