Match report Cricket returned to Shardeloes last Saturday after the long winter on a glorious sunny afternoon, more reminiscent of balmy July days than shivery April ones. Chesham were the visitors and, after a good afternoon's cricket, Amersham ran out comfortable winners. Chesham chose to bat having won the toss and made a steady start; Matt Rance and Brendan O'Donovan negotiating the early overs without much difficulty. Tom Colquhoun, making his debut for Amersham, came into the attack and bowled to good effect, removing O'Donovan to a good low catch by brother Dan and Rance to a particualrly sharp piece of wicketkeeping by Rob Viney. Further pressure was applied to Chesham by some tight bowling from David Atkinson (2-19) and three more wickets fell as the score advanced to 100. Garry Emery (41) and wicketkeeper Laxman (34) pushed Chesham towards a respectable total of 202. Two early wickets left Amersham on 11-2, but this brought Chris Cann to the wicket to join Andy Viney. A partnership of 146 went a long way to guarantee victory. Cann was the quicker scorer initially and his 98 was peppered with fluent stroke play. Viney's unbeaten 70 was more circumspect, but included some fine off side play in th elatter stages. Captain Luke Jackson applied the coup de grace with a quickfire 23 to conclude matters with 10 overs to spare.
