Windsor v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 on Sat 22 May 2010 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 6 wickets
Match report
A fine all round display from Amersham was too strong for newly promoted Windsor.
In the shadow of the castle, Jackson called wrong and the home team elected to make first use of a decent batting wicket. Lines and Rogers continued their disciplined and frugal opening partnership with the latter inducing Philip Hughes-a-like Birch into a loose drive to Andy Viney at cover before nicking off Gould into the safe hands of Owen with the score at 27. Huggins and Vandenberg then consolidated before Dixon broke through, before Vandenberg and Nichols shared a 47 run partnership. Jackson successfully purchased both wickets, and Lines and the excellent Mayer, supported by good fielding, took wickets regularly to leave Windsor 30 or 40 runs short of a par score.
Windsor clearly have a tried and tested method of playing - putting runs on the board and then taking the old ball to squeeze the opposition in the early overs. When Harris had Rob Viney caught at slip off the second ball of the innings, this approach looked likely to be successful - but then Colquhoun arrived. A wonderful counter attacking innings punctuated by cover drives and leg side hits - and the unfortunate loss of Owen - took the game away from Windsor. When he was dismissed for 45, the growing crowd were treated to high quality batsmanship from Cann and Fleming, whose 100+ partnership more or less saw Amersham over the line.
