Kew v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 on Sat 03 Jul 2010 at 13:30

Match report
Amersham returned to some sort of form on Kew Green on Saturday as they fought out a draw with league leaders Kew. On a hot day with a parched and dusty outfield a high scoring game looked likely, but good bowling from both sides made for a balanced and competitive game. Kew elected to bat having won the toss and old foes Rob Maier and Brice Friderichs put together an opening partnership of 65 before Maier fell LBW to Atkinson (5-51). Friderichs continued serenely on his way to 83, while Alex Lines (1-19 off 10 overs) removed Mistry to a good leg side catch by Rob Viney. Friderichs eventually missed an attempted lofted drive Off Luke Jackson (4-37) and was stumped by Viney, who had a good day behind the stumps in a challenging conditions because of the uneven bounce. After Friderichs' departure 7 wickets fell in 15 overs as Jackson and Atkinson worked their way through the Kew middle and lower order. Good control from both bowlers meant that the batsmen had to take risks to score quickly. They were supported by good work in the field as Abhay Mayer and Alex Lines took good catches and the standard of the ground fielding remained high.
It was clear from the outset that the run chase would require a number of partnerships to flourish and Amersham started well in this sense. Rob Viney (44) and Ben Matthews (13) put on 37 followed by a stand of 49 between Viney and Chris Fleming (16). However, they departed in quick succession, leaving Dan Colquhoun (19) and Luke Jackson (43) to rebuild. This they did to good effect but the return of the dangerous Kidron Thomas (2-32) to the attack slowed the scoring rate and accounted for Colquhoun. Jackson continued to attack, finding support from Abhay Mayer (30) but, as in the first innings, good bowling forced the batsmen to take risks which ultimately led to their demise. Amersham ended on 193-8.
