Maidenhead & Bray v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 on Sat 10 Jul 2010 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 30 runs
Match report
Amersham 216-8 beat Maidenhead and Bray 186 all out
Amersham returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 30 run victory at Maidenhead and Bray's well appointed ground. Having won the toss and chosen to bat first an opening partnership of 124 was a welcome sight, although both Rob Viney (67) and Chris Owen (39) found it hardgoing at times along the way, especially when dealing with the swing bowling of Mehmood Malik. Acceleration during the Amersham innings was hard to come by, so the base of the excellent opening partnership was very valuable. Najeem Bashir bowled his spin tightly to take 6 wickets, and a flurry of good running and boundaries from Richard Stephenson (19*) and Abhay Mayer (12) towards the end of the innings took the visitors past 200.
Given the uneven bounce and the success of Bashir Amersham's spinners, David Atkinson (2-54) and Abhay Mayer (4-42) were given the opportunity to open the bowling. Both bowled a tight opening spell, putting pressure on the Bray batsmen. This paid off as first Jacobsen and then Arjan holed out off successive balls with the score on 22. Atkinson then trapped Bashir LBW before the seamers were given the new ball to work with. Alex Lines (1-43) and Andy Viney (1-20) picked up a wicket each and some efficient fielding from Abhay Mayer and Stuart Rogers ensured that run out chances were taken. Chris Rogers (44) batted sensibly for Bray before Khan (56), batting at 7, played many aggressive shots to try and win the game for the home team. However, once Rogers had departed Amersham sniffed a chance of victory and a very capable spell from Abhay Mayer at the end of the innings meant that the last wicket fell with 10 balls to spare.
