Match report
DIN MAKES A NOISE AT SHARDELOES
Amersham threw away the chance to cause a real upset at Shardeloes on Saturday with a collapse of epic proportions gifting Chalfont a win they didn't look like securing until well into the second innings
Having won the toss the Chalfont skipper (Din) unsurprisingly decided to bat first on a relatively safe looking track, lightening outfield and scorching hot day and, after a couple of tight opening overs from Rogers and Dixon started to take advantage.
Whilst Din made hay Haneef and Ahmed both succumbed to Dixon with good catches from Dolleymore and Jackson behind the poles (Ash take note!). Rajabali followed a good spell from Rogers displaying his usual calm and control and from a position of 92-1 after 17 overs, Chalfont were checked. Rajabali was helped in no small amout by a fabulous spell of fast bowling from McKay and they slowly began chipping away at the Chalfont middle order. The dismissal of Din for a very strong, if slightly fortunate 78, pretty much ended the Chalfont attack and expecting to walk off at tea chasing 225+, Amersham were delighted to only be chasing 171. Really good catching (in the main), ground fielding (in the main) and thoughtful cricket from Amersham backed the bowling superbly.
A steady, solid and very sensible start from Matthews B and Weston indicated nothing of the carnage that was to follow as they, helped by Jackson following Matthews' dismissal, carried the score to 90-1 after 23 overs.
Then Din introduced himself, Khan started to cause problems, and Amersham imploded - getting themselves bowled out for a paltry and incredibly disappointing 131
There is nothing more to say than we really must make the most of the continued good starts our openers are giving us and simply spend some time at the crease - it was not good enough!
Next week we travel to the inconsistent Teddington and hope for a better batting display.
