Teddington Town v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 17 Jul 2010 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Lost by 106 runs
Match report
Amersham fell well short once again on a blustery day in Bushey Park as they lost by 106 runs to Teddington Town
A postcode lottery meant the Amersham troops filed in to the ground as the skipper returned from the toss having decided, despite winning his first of the year, that fielding was the only option. McKay bowled a very fast opening spell with little luck whilst Rogers continued from his good line and length from last week. It took the introduction of Weston, yes Weston, to part the Teddington openers and followed this up with another as the dangerous Simmons ust missed out on his 50.
Anything slightly off line was dispatched by the Teddington top order and despite a good line and length from all the Amersham seamers the score kept on ticking over helped by the small and fast outfield. The introduction of two of the three leggies in the side changed the complexion of the innings. The returning Shabbir bowled a good line and produced a considerable amount of spin and bounce whilst Marsh bowled a great length with sensible variation. Shabbir picked up the middle order whilst the unfortunate Marsh failed to pick up a wicket. With only 10 overs to go Amersham were hopeful of keeping Teddington to 200-220 but then Patel and Dardegan kicked on and took the home side to 260 from 51 overs.
In reply Matthews and Weston began circumspectly defending stoutly whilst putting away the bad ball. The first poor shot did for Weston bringing Jackson to the crease who helped Matthews along and at 40-1 after 11 overs Amersham were well positioned
But then the usual happened! Matthews got a good one, Jackson called for a poor run, and Tilbury and Shabbir played poor shots. Whilst all of this was going on Dolleymore played one of his better innings this year by going back to basics - hitting the bad ball and defending the good. The rest of the middle order could do with taking note
A good catch however accounted for him and the next three batters all left swiftly. Only Rogers and D McKay, the last pair, played with any sense and put a alightly better sheen than perhaps we deserved.
The end was inevitable with 5 overs left.
