Hayes v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 07 Aug 2010 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Lost by 4 wickets

Match report We scared them but ultimately allowed Hayes to preserve their 100% record for the season, but we did scare them!!
Having lost the toss the skipper was not particularly surprised to be asked to bat against the leagues leading bowlers on a wicket covered in damp patches. Weston and Matthews began watchfully once more and, although low in bounce, the wicket did not appear to hide too many demons. The Hayes opening bowlers though bowled a very tight line, varied their pace and allowed very little for the openers to feast upon demonstrating their superiority over all other bowlers in the league. Matthews was first to go having walked too far across his stumps trying to flick to fine leg whilst Jackson followed soon after again trying to manufacturer a shot that was not really on due in part to the mounting pressure.
As the rain came after 18 overs Weston (25) and Colquhoun (10) had steadied the ship to 42-2 and were looking to push on during the middle overs
Unfortunately the rain rested the Hayes openers, dampened the wicket a touch and perhaps shifted the momentum away from the Amersham batters.
On resumption Amersham once again capitualted through a range of poor shot selection, good fielding but primarily good straight bowling. A Matthews was the only other batsman to reach double figures leaving Khan with figures of 16-6-33-7
A wonderful tea (the best of the season and close to toppling Harefield from top spot in this correspondants view) was followed by a rallying call from the skipper to save total embarrasment and put in a good bolwing effort.
Dixon and Ward duly obliged.
Dixon, with 3 wickets for only ten runs and Ward unlucky not to pick up some wickets in his initial 5 overs left Hayes 24-3 after 10 overs and the dander of Amersham well and truly up.
Unfortunately 78 was never ever going to be enough as a few wild swings (and we saw plenty of those from the two Singhs) would move Hayes rapidly towards their target
Rajabali removed Singh and the skipper Green through stunning catches from the Matthews brothers and once again Hayes teetered on the edge of an embarrasing defeat at 50-5 with little batting to come. But Singh with three lusty blows brought Hayes their winning runs, but not before Ward got a much deserved wicket and Amersham a further precious point.
Simple sum for the rest of the season - win at least 3 out of the last 4 games and hope for some help!
