Chesham 4 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 3rd X1 on Sat 08 May 2010 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Won 38 Runs

Match report Amersham 3rd XI got their league season off to a flying start with a comfortable 38 run victory over local rivals Chesham IV at Chartridge. After losing the toss Amersham were invited to bat first on a damp green wicket and it wasn't long before Hugh Coles was back in the pavilion after miscuing a shot to mid on. David Mackintosh was joined at the crease by Nick Piper and after a watchful start proceeded to add over a hundred together for the second wicket before Mackintosh(33*)was forced to retire with a strained hamstring on top of an already sore back! Piper upped the tempo and with the assistance of Jack Rogers(12)& Renny Adams(17)took the score past 200 before Piper(94)succumbed six runs short of what would have been a well deserved century. Robert Lloyd(17*)& Tom Ayling(4*)batted very sensibly adding a further 20 runs before Renny declared on 219 for 4 leaving Chesham 50 overs to reach their target.

Chesham were soon on the back foot against the debutant Colin Matthews and Jack Rogers, losing their first 3 wickets very quickly, with Hugh Coles taking a stunning one handed catch behind the stumps to remove Craig Suckling.Matthews & Rogers each bowled a tidy line with movement off the seam both ways. Tim Wainwright steadied the Chesham ship and it wasn't until the introduction of the wily leg spin of Felix Allum that Amersham made further breakthroughs. Felix on his third team debut bowled really well claiming excellent figures of 3-59 in his 10 overs. The wickets started to dry up as A.Watson made an excellent 67 no, although dropping three catches didn't help. Tom Ayling was brought into the attack and dismissed Wainwright for a stubborn 31 on the way to taking 2-19. The Chesham tail was now exposed and Adams brought back the opening partnership of Rogers & Matthews, who gave an excellent display in his first match claiming 4-38 in 13 overs. The last wicket fell to a comical run out with 4 overs remaining thus giving Amersham a comfortable 38 run win and obtaining the 25 point maximum. This was a good team effort and we look forward to entertaining Hillingdon Manor at Barn Meadow next week.
