AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 v Kidmore End on Sat 30 Apr 2011 at 13:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 10 runs
Match report
Amersham (100 all out) beat Kidmore End (90 all out) by 10 runs.
In the final friendly before the league season starts next Saturday Amersham won a very low scoring and close fought encounter with Kidmore End. Played on a pitch more reminiscent of some of the drier August wickets Shardeloes has witnessed the ball was always the dominant force in the game, although only two or three batsmen were dismissed because of the pitch directly.
Abhay Mayer and Andy Viney opened the batting for Amersham, but found the conditions difficult from the very beginning. Kidmore End's opening attack put the ball in the right areas and picked up early wickets, leaving Amersham in a parlous position at 40-5. Jaco Nel (20) top scored for Amersham with a few lusty blows before falling, and the largest partnership of the match was savedfor the 9th wicket between newcomer Paresh Somani and Jack Rogers. Their efforts saw the home side to three figures, but victory appeared unlikely.
However, Amersham's bowling attack performed with considerable determination and no little skill. Jaco Nel's debut (6-14) was impressive, and he removed the first three Kidmore End batsmen. Before his dismissal Tom Sheldon (23) had set Kidmore End off quickly in pursuit of the small target, his runs coming off only 15 balls. After the first three wickets fell, Mark New and Charlie Moore batted very sensibly in advancing the total to 59-3 before Moore miscued a catch into the covers. Nel's return to the attack saw three more wickets fall in quick succession and when David Atkinson (1-0 off 6 overs) bowled Ashby the momentum of the game had swung decisively in favour of Amersham. Paresh Somani (2-13) claimed the final two wickets and an entertaining afternoon's cricket came to an end.
There is no doubt, however, that Amersham must up their game next weekend when they visit High Wycombe to get the league season underway.
