AMERSHAM CC Saturday 1st X1 v Beaconsfield on Sat 18 Jun 2011 at 13:00
AMERSHAM CC Won by 5 wickets

Match report Amersham (186-5) beat Beaconsfield (185-7) by 5 wickets in the Morrant Thames Valley League.

Amersham recorded their third win in 5 games on Saturday as Luke and Hugh Jackson masterminded the successful chase of 185 with an unbeaten 5th wicket partnership of 96. On a day that looked certain to be be affected by the weather it was a delight to get a full game of cricket in, and even better to record a victory. Luke Jackson won what looked like a crucial toss and elected to bowl first on an emerald green wicket, but, as the day unfolded, this seemed less important as the wicket played better than it looked. Jaco Nel (1-48) an Stuart Rogers (2-44) were surprised when Richard Pentecost began by driving aggressively through the offside, but the dampness in the wicket soon caused him to miscue a catch to backward point off Rogers, who then moved one away from Luc Walker who edged to the safe hands of Chris Cann at second slip. A third wicket fell when Jaco Nel claimed an lbw decision and Beaconsfield had to rebuild from 35-3. This they did through lefthanders Chris Thomas (20) and David Heaviside (55) but they were unable to score quickly thanks to tight bowling from spinners David Atkinson (2-32 off 14 overs), Abhay Mayer (0-29) and Luke Jackson (1-9)> Atkinson claimed the wickets of Thomas and Sylvester when they chipped catches to fielders but Heaviside batted very sensibly for his 55 mixing judicious defence with good attacking shots, especially off his legs. Mark Sullivan (42*) brought attacking intent to the end of the innings, with a brisk innings featuring two huge sixes and a total of 185 seemed competitive.

Chris Fleming (47) got Amersham's reply off to a flying start with a hard hit innings off only 39 balls, but when he was the third man out with the score on only 49 the game was evenly poised. Luke Jackson (84*) continued his good form of recent weeks and hit the ball cleanly from the moment he arrived at the crease. He raced to 17 off 10 balls before settling to produce a matchwinning innings. He found superb support in the form of his brother Hugh, whose unbeaten 41 grew in authority as the game went on. The pair negotiated a rain break and a Beaconsfield attack that did not give up. Hugh made the decisive move in the run chase, taking 17 from one over when Amersham needed 40 to win and victory arrived with 13 balls to spare.
