Match report Amersham entertained the wanderers of the Free Foresters on Saturday in a friendly to end this year's season. Appropriately it provided the opportunity for one of the club's great servants to pass a landmark. When Duncan Ward slanted a delivery across Ollie Richards enough for the batsman to edge it to Hugh Jackson at slip he claimed his 800th wicket for the club, in his 26th season. This outstanding effort was warmly toasted in the bar afterwards, and Duncan, and his knees, are looking forward to moving towards the full thousand wickets next year.

Earlier in the day a technically excellent century from Hendru Puchert (116*) was the highlight of a game adversely affected by rain while Rob Viney's 57 took him past 900 runs for the season. Early wickets to Stuart Rogers (4-19) ended the game as a contest and took him past 50 wickets for the season. An excellent 66* from Tom Clarke guided the Foresters to 168-7 when stumps were drawn, leaving all involved to reflect on a lifetime of left arm seam bowling for Amersham by a skilful and wholehearted trier and genuine clubman.
