Match report Amersham were left rueing a case of what might have been as they left Chenies after another heavy league defeat.

Chenies batted first on a hard and true wicket, and openers Norwood and Carvey gave the Amersham attack little encouragement as they eased their way to an opening partnership of 130, with Norwood in particular very quick to punish anything less than perfect line and length. It was a surprise when he finally fell to Somani for 85, whilst at the other end Carvey displayed admirable discipline in carrying his bat for 82 - a trait some of the Amersham batsmen would do well to learn from. Despite a flurry of wickets, may came in to score a rapid 51 and Amersham were left to chase a daunting target at tea.
Stephenson and Weston started confidently against a good Chenies attack and seemed set for a big partnership until Norwood managed to trap Stephenson leg before and thereafter the rot rather set in. Weston attempted one drive too many and again perished when a little more patience would have brought greater rewards, and only Paul Langley showed the requisite discipline in compiling an undefeated 49 and only the clatter of wickets at the other end deprived him of what would have been a well-deserved 50. Mention should be made of the figures of Brown, who returned 6-55 from 19 accurate overs of medium paced swing bowling. Amersham will need to improve quickly if their season is not to turn rather sour.
