Wycombe Dragons 1 v AMERSHAM CC Saturday 2nd X1 on Sat 13 Aug 2011 at 12:30
AMERSHAM CC Won by 7 wickets
Match report
A timely return to form saw Amersham 2nds record a comfortable victory over Wycombe Dragons at the picturesque Flackwell Heath ground on Saturday. Amersham won the toss and had no hesitation in inviting the hosts to bat first on a wet wicket that initiall made strokeplay difficult. The Wycombe openers opted for a sensible approach, and whilst the runs scored were danger of being overtaken by the overs bowled, there were few early alarms and it took a quite brilliant one handed, diving catch by Rich Stephenson to break an obdurate opening partnership. This seemed to inspire the Amersham fielders, who then proceeded to field in a manner quite out of character as first Stephenson again, then Ward took catches that quite defied much of what has gone before this season - the dismissal of the dangerous Raheel in particular may well have been the key moment in the game and I doubt if Duncan has ever taken a better catch. Matt Mckay seemed inspired by the efforts of the fielders around him and bowled with great control to earn well deserved figures of 6-40. The Wycombe total of 146 seemed about on par for the wicket and outfield, and tea was taken with Amersham sensing an upset was on the cards.
The Amersham reply got off to a flier, with Messrs Coles (42) and Langley (25) quick to feast on the buffet initially served up, and together they put on 55 for the first wicket. When Coles left via stage door right, in came Stephenson and with the spotlight fixed on him, pulled and drove his way to a quickfire 38 that had the sizable audience frequently expressing their approval. With victory in sight, both rather fluffed their lines and it was left to Dale and Weston to draw the performance to a conclusion and victory was duly recorded in the 37th over.
