AMERSHAM CC Sunday 1st X1 v Privateers on Sun 10 Jul 2011 at 11.30am
AMERSHAM CC Won by 45 runs
Match report
Privateers visited a drying Shardeloes on Sunday for an all-day friendly and to face an Amersham slide who were full of batting and bowlers who wanted to bat. The subsequent picking of the batting order out of a hat left skipper Andy Viney to open the batting with Gray, who departed early door for a duck. What followed was a procession of Amersham batsman batting in true Amersham style, with few of the batsman succumbing to defensive shots.
Notable exceptions came from: Viney, whose 42 was a brave attempt to redefine accepted batting technique and the Chairman who was unlucky to cream an off drive to the only man on the field who would have caught it, the previously dismissed Will Gray, who kindly sub-fielded for a Privateer who was taken ill. Paul Weston batted well, and was unlucky that his contribution was completely overshadowed by that of his wife, Mel, whose catering throughout the day was exemplary. Ben Langley, despite some outrageous criticism from his own mother with regards to his scoring rate, provided some backbone at the end of the innings, with a good 50. Amersham reached 199ao.
In reply, Amersham started well with Stuart claiming two early wickets. Mikey Viney struggled early on, and it looked like Amersham would struggle to contain the Privateers in the chase. Rob bowled 5 cheerful overs and Jaco bowled beautifully, but still the Privateers buccaneered towards the target. The introduction of Pinks began to change the game, as he picked up three wickets, prompting the Privateers skipper to brace the mainsails and launch a final assault and causing Jaco and Stuart to be reintroduced. The end came quickly, with a sharp slip catch from Jackson and a one-handed slip catch from Viney behind the sticks off Rogers leading Amersham to a 30 run victory.
